Navigation menus

Menus are the sets of links that help visitors find their way around your shop. A site menu sits in your storefront's header and shows its entries as one row; a footer menu becomes a column of links at the foot of every page, under the menu's own name. Every menu is created as a draft: you add its entries, then put it online when it is ready.

Each task below starts from the same place: open the main menu and, under Store builder, click Navigation. The header menus are on the Menu tab and the footer menus on the Footer tab.

Create a header menu

  1. Click the Menu tab.
  2. Click Create a site menu. The New menu form opens with Location set to Header.
  3. Click Create menu.

The message The menu has been created as a draft. appears, and the menu is added to The site menus.

Note — A header menu has no name: the storefront draws its entries as one row, so only footer menus are named.

  1. Click the Footer tab.
  2. Click Create a footer menu. The New menu form opens with Location set to Footer.
  3. In Name, enter the title of the column, for example Customer service.
  4. Click Create menu.

The message The menu has been created as a draft. appears, and the menu is added to The footer menus.

Add entries to a menu

Each entry points at one target. In a header menu, it can be a category, a product or an address of your own; in a footer menu, it can also be one of your shop's pages.

  1. On the Menu or Footer tab, on the menu's card, click Add an entry.
  2. Choose the target:
    • Catalogue category — a category of your catalogue.
    • Product — one product. It wins over a category chosen above.
    • Boutique page — one page of your shop (footer menus only).
    • Chosen link — an address starting with https:// or with a single /.
  3. In Label (optional), enter the text visitors see. Left empty, the entry takes the name of its category, product or page.
  4. Click Add entry.

The message The entry has been added. appears. Repeat for each entry.

Note — An entry with a Chosen link needs a label. Without one, the message Give this entry a name: a chosen link has no name of its own to borrow. appears.

Put the entries in order

In a header menu

  1. On the Menu tab, scroll to the Entries of the menus table.
  2. On an entry's row, click the up arrow (Move up) or the down arrow (Move down).

The table and the Preview at the top of the tab show the new order.

  1. On the Footer tab, in the Entries of the columns table, click Edit on the entry's row.
  2. In Position, enter the entry's number in the column.
  3. Click Save.

The message The entry has been saved. appears.

Note — Two entries cannot share the same number. If they do, the message Two entries cannot carry the same number. Give each one its own. appears.

Put a menu online

A new menu stays hidden from visitors until you put it online.

  1. On the Menu or Footer tab, on the menu's card, click Change status.
  2. Check the Menu and its Current status.
  3. Click Put online.

The message Menu status updated. appears and the menu becomes visible to visitors. To hide it again, use Change status then Take offline: its entries are kept.

Note — The In the header and In the footer columns show whether each entry is Shown or Not shown. An entry whose target no longer exists is not shown on your storefront.
