Categories
Categories organize your catalog by theme so your customers can find your products easily. A category can hold sub-categories, and each one can have its own images and description. A new category is online straight away; you can suspend it to take it off your shop without losing anything. Everything starts from Categories, under Catalog in the main menu.
Create a category
- Open the main menu and, under Catalog, click Categories.
- Click Add a category.
- On New category, enter its Name. This is the only required field.
- Leave Parent category on No parent (root category) to create a top-level category.
- Optionally, fill in Description and Internal reference.
- Click Create category.
The message The category has been created. appears. The category is ready to use and is listed on the All categories tab.
Add a sub-category
A sub-category sits under another category, for example "T-shirts" under "Clothing".
- In Categories, click the All categories tab, then click the name of the parent category.
- Click the Subcategories tab.
- Click Add a subcategory. The form opens with the current category already chosen in Parent category.
- Enter the sub-category's Name.
- Click Create category.
The message The category has been created. appears, and the sub-category is listed on the parent's Subcategories tab.
Tip — To move an existing category under another one, open it, click Edit on its Overview tab, choose the new Parent category, then click Save. Choose No parent (top level) to bring it back to the top level.
Add an image to a category
- Open the category, then click the Images tab.
- Click Add an image.
- In Image file, choose a picture from your library. If it is not there yet, click Open the upload window, add your file, then close the window.
- In Main image, choose Yes to make it the category's cover, or No to add it as a secondary image.
- Click Save.
The message The image has been saved. appears. A category holds one main image and up to 20 secondary images.
Tip — A square image of 512 × 512 pixels is recommended. Accepted formats are JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC, up to 2000 KB.
Write a category's description
The description presents the category to your customers and helps them choose.
- Open the category, then click the Description tab.
- Click Edit.
- Type your text in Description.
- Click Save.
The message Description saved. appears.
Suspend or reactivate a category
Your shop only shows active categories. Suspending a category takes it off your shop without deleting anything.
- Open the category. It opens on its Overview tab.
- Click Suspend.
- On Change category status, check the category's name, then click Suspend category.
The message Category status updated. appears and the category no longer shows on your shop.
To put it back online, open the category, click Restore, then click Activate category.
Note — Changing the status only changes whether the category is shown. Its products and details are kept, and you can reactivate it at any time.
Delete a category
You can only delete an empty category: move its products and sub-categories elsewhere first.
- Open the category.
- On its Overview tab, click Delete.
- On Delete this category?, check its name and parent, then click Delete this category.
The message The category has been deleted. appears and the category no longer appears in your lists. Its data is kept.
Note — If the category still holds products or sub-categories, the message This category still contains items. Empty it before deleting it. appears and nothing is deleted.
